How to root Motorola Atrix HD (MB886) by using MotoFail2Go exploit

After waiting for months since it was first released, finally Motorola Atrix HD has managed to get root access by using Motofail2Go root exploit published by djrbliss from xda. Root could work on all versions of Atrix HD (MB886), AT&T or Bell Canada.

In order to gain root access we don’t need to unlock our android phone’s bootloader, since the root exploit can be used on phones with locked bootloader. Root access makes this phone a much more useful, we can optimize hidden features that previously could not be enjoyed such as tethering.

Root error unknown package

In case you get an error message “run-as: Package ‘com.motorola.bug2go’ is unknown”, it means you need to perform a factory reset to clear data and cache partition, but make sure you backup all data (sms, contact, etc) on your android phone.

The script runs and says exploit failed, so i decided to step through it manually wiht a terminal emulator… and it all \works\ (no error messages), until the chmod part, and then it says operation not permitted. And this is why i assume the rest fails becuase the motofail2go cannot be set to executable… any ideas on how to work around this?

Also the run-as portion says permission denied… but I assume this may be related to teh prep1 and other stuff not not working…

I have the Atrix HD and I tried the guide, actually the vibration and the exploit complete successful appears. But when I saw in a terminal client $su fail the root. Also this happens when I check by a root checker.
So, I wonder Why? someone can help me.

I’m having a similar issue (on MB886 running Android 4.1.1) where script terminates showing exploit was successful, but “Root checker” says I do NOT have root. Confirmed lack of root when Cerberus can’t grab a screenshot (Cerberus is my main motivation at this point for going for root in the first place).

Would very much appreciate any news on this. I can’t find any alternate methods for doing root on this phone.

UPDATE: Nevermind. Just saw the “Head to this page” update at the top. Nothing to see here… move along.
