Sony has officially released Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for Xperia TL (LT30at) last month with 9.1.F.1.120 build number, but for some reason AT&T is delaying for a few weeks so maybe you will get it in mid-March 2013, most likely AT&T will customize the JB update with their apps (bloatware) before mass release. This update brings several new features including the latest version of Sony Media apps (Walkman, Photo Albums and Movies) and Improved camera performance.
In case you have rooted devices (ICS), you ought to know that you will lose root access when installing Jelly Bean update via PC Companion, and you might unable to root it again, since the Bin4ry root method currently doesn’t work for the Xperia TL on Android 4.1. The only way is to install the stock rooted ROM JB.
Until now there is no way to gain root on Xperia TL running Jelly Bean official firmware so you have to wait until the latest method offered. But for those who really want to get root access on your device, you can try following steps below:
- If your phone has been rooted when running ICS (Android 4.0) update, then you need to install CWM recovery instead of stock recovery, that has limited capabilities. Considering that our device still locked be sure to use CWM for locked bootloaders, installation guide can be found here.
- Once the custom recovery installed properly, now we have to grab a flashable pre-rooted stock based Jelly Bean ROM for AT&T Xperia TL (LT30at) in zip, I’m sure devs still working on it.
- Enter into CWM recovery and then flash the ROM. Now you can experience rooted Xperia TL with official Jelly Bean firmware.
