How to root AT&T and Sprint LG Optimus G (E970 and LS970), The Easy Way

For those who wish to customize their AT&T/Sprint LG Optimus G (E970/LS970), obtaining root access could be the action to take. Through rooting, we also have the chance to improve our device performance such as removing or freezing unused/bloatware apps to free some space on internal storage and increase battery life, CPU Overclocking, full backup apps and many others.


As you may know Optimus G is the latest Smartphone from LG come with greatest hardware specs, powered by 1.5 GHz Quad-core S4 CPU, Adreno 320 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. Hopefully, after gaining root access, all the device capabilities can be used optimally.

Getting root access on this device isn’t very difficult, not through a complicated process. This guide will show you how to root AT&T or Sprint LG Optimus G (E970/LS970) using a root exploit by galleri from xda.

  1. Turn USB Debugging on your device, go to Settings > General tab > Developer options. And also check “Unknown sources” on Settings > General tab > Security.
  2. Get LG E970 or LS970, the device drivers are required to engage with your Windows computer.
  3. Connect your phone via USB as charge only, make sure it recognized by your PC.
  4. Grab root exploit directly from xda (mirror), and extract it.

  6. Run “RootOptimusG.bat”, and follow all instructions properly. In the middle of the root process, your device will ask for restore, just hit “Restore my data”, and it will reboot. Don’t disconnect USB cable till script says it was successful.
  7. Go to Play Store and update SuperSU app.

    I started running the. Bat file and I am getting the same image as in the post but my phone has not asked me to restore data… Am I doing something wrong or does it just take time to reach that point

    My phone gets past the daemon started successfully the it tells me 2 files were not found then it sais press any key to continue I do and it goes to preparing to root! Then it sais that it is installing busybox, and supperuser
    unning busybox….. select
    estore my data on your phone!
    the phone gives me the prompt and i hit it then the phone just stays. it did restart once one time but not the second time and it never installed anything and my root apps can not find root. the ADB does tell me root complete but the phone is not rooted. am i doing something wrong.
    any and all help is well appreciated.

    i did all the steps and it said that the root was complete, however superSU wasnt downloaded. i downloaded root checker and it said my device wasnt rooted. should i try again? was it because my phone was updated to jelly bean?

    when I run the resote is says starting then says restore ended

    Man, that doesn’t work, I have been trying to root my phone for a little minute now. Some say to download GAIO tool which if found then you can’t download. It’s like a hidden secret or something, I definitely do not have the time to look for issues to root, if I cannot get a legit root instructions then forget it.
