Xperia Z (C6603/C6602/C6606) and Xperia ZL (C6502/C6503/6506) are Sony’s new flagship Android phone for 2013, when introduced for the first time at CES 2013 this phone attracted much attention, besides the sophisticated design, this phone also has a great performance, comes with 5-inches display, Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2 GB of RAM. Especially for Xperia Z, equipped with dust and water proof (IP57 certified).
For some folks who like to mods their device, the first thought after getting an Android devices are acquiring root access, so they have full access to mods or improve the performance of their device. As you may know, currently Sony is one of the most developer-friendly OEM, it can be noticed from some Xperia devices that were introduced last year (Xperia Ion/T/TL/TX), which is quite easy to root although with locked bootloader. So, most likely we will be able to root Xperia Z / ZL easily by using the existing root exploit.
Unlocked bootloader devices
Specifically Xperia Z (C6602/C6603) an xda developers – DooMLoRD have successfully acquired root access, but to make your phone rooted, we need to unlock ours device’s bootloader. You should know that by unlocking the bootlader may void your warranty, the device’s DRM keys will be lost forever. But there are also advantages for example you can flash a custom ROM / kernel freely, your device will always rooted no matter what firmware version you have.
Xperia Z, If you decide to carry out a bootlader unlock, then you can gain root access right now by flashing a custom kernel from CF-Auto-Root, you can read the root guide here tested on Xperia Z (C6602/C6603).
Xperia ZL, using same method but using different modified kernel, learn more here.
Locked bootloader devices
For those who decide not to unlock their bootloaders,
it feels like you need to wait much longer, since until now there is no root method for locked devices. However I sure it will not be long, because as we said earlier that Sony is a developer-friendly OEM. Maybe someday Bin4ry will update his root tools to support Xperia Z, this script had previously managed to root the 2012 Xperia range, including Xperia Ion, TL, N, S, P, U, Sola, Tipo, Acro S and much more.
Easy Root Method for Xperia Z and ZL, this Goroh_kun and Bin4ry’s root script for devices with locked bootloader, find out more here. This Bin4ry root script has been tried on Xperia Z / ZL, and it worked flawlessly.
