For those of you who have AT&T LG Optimus G (E970) but consider to run Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.1) AOSP ROM exactly like Nexus 4, now you can convert your phone into LG Nexus 4, we have to thank to Team-Nocturnal for this.
Optimus G conversion is done by flashing custom (*.tot) firmware file with LGNPST, this procedure will remaps your device partition, get rid of the entire Optimus G firmware, the bootloader, boot animation, and every single thing and then replace it with a Nexus 4 stuff.
Immediately after the conversion done well, the device will be compatible with almost all custom ROMs made for the Nexus 4 (AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, etc.) Without having to wait for LG to release official Jelly Bean updates that is unknown when it will be released.
Since it’s not an official release from LG, you encountered some problems such as:
- AT&T 4G LTE will not work.
- SDCard mounting issue.
- Only half the internal storage space of LG Optimus G is detected (8GB of the 16GB) since Nexus 4 only has 8GB of storage space.
- Capacitive buttons are not detected and no light, so it can’t be used. But you can still make use of the on-screen button.
Conversion is recommended for experienced users only since it involves the flashing process with LGNPST and it quite risky for those who never customize their android device before, do at your own risk! For steps to convert and future updates, go to Team-Nocturnal site.
