Verizon Droid Turbo bounty for root and bootloader unlock eclipsed the $1,000 mark in one day

Only days after the Motorola Droid Turbo officially released by Verizon Wireless, a root and bootloader unlock bounty thread has came out at xda forums. It indicates that there are many Droid Turbo owners who are eager to be able to obtain root access and if possible also to unlock its bootloader.

As you may know, this phone’s bootloader is locked, it’s making an effort to get the root becomes tougher. However, it’s a Verizon smartphone, so we weren’t surprised.

A bounty created by the android community to attract anyone to discover a vulnerability or to provide a working method to root a specific device, in this case a Droid Turbo (XT1254). They expected a talented guy like Justin Case (jcase @xda) to delve deeper into this device.

For those who have no idea, jcase is the man behind the MotoRoot, a utility that gives root to the Moto X and 2013 Droid Family (Maxx, Ultra and Mini).

The bounty thread just created yesterday, but today it has reached $1,045 to unlock bootloader and $720 for root access, and will be growing as time passes and more people have this phone. If you’re one of the Turbo Droid owner and need root badly, consider to set aside a little bucks to take part in this bounty.

We think, to get superusers privileges on this device most likely will need quite some time, since the well-known dev like jcase still busy with his current project called SunShine, a bootloader unlock utility. Unfortunately, the SunShine isn’t going to support the Motorola device in the next release. But, we would not call it impossible.

5 days later and the bounty is over double that.
Bootloader bounty is at $2500 and root bounty is at $1700
I don’t think it’s been updated recently either so the number is most likely higher than that.

When will the cell providers realize that their customers really want root access. Almost regret getting my turbo in lieu of the nexus 6.

These devices are like 600+ dollars retail. So why would carriers see this as noteworthy. They spend more on toilet paper in a week.
