Verizon Droid RAZR HD has received an official update to Android KitKat in Q2 2014, and it could be last official Android OS updates received by this smartphone. As we know, according to Motorola’s announcement last year, they confirmed that the Android 5.0 Lollipop will come only to the newer released phone like Moto X, Moto G, Moto E and 2013 Verizon Droid line. So, you won’t see a Lollipop update for the Droid Razr HD or Maxx HD.
Luckily, this device has been supported by CyanogenMod team since CM10 (Jelly Bean) in 2012, and now the CyanogenMod team has released CM12 nightly build based on Android 5.0.1 which based on Lollipop, and the Verizon RAZR HD and RAZR Maxx HD already supported now. You should be pleased as this device is one of 32 other devices which getting the first CM12 nightly, officially.
Though it’s only a nightly build, but the CyanogenMod team has confirmed that some crucial features are working without hassles, for example Call, Camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. In case you got the bugs you expect that it will be resolved soon since the new build will be available every 24 hours. If you ever run nightly ROMs in the past, you should know that you can use it as a daily driver.
In case you are already running a custom ROM on your device now, then you can flash this CM12 ROM right away. If you have never installed any custom ROMs, then you must satisfy several requirements to be able to run CM12 (Lollipop) on the Droid RAZR HD / Maxx HD including root access, then unlocking the bootloader with motopocalypse utility as well as flash the custom recovery.
