Motorola Droid Razr HD or Razr Maxx HD has been receiving official updates to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2) in March 2013, however that’s not the latest version of the Android OS. As you may know, Google has released Android 4.2, which was released last year and brings most recent major update. This new Jelly Bean comes with several improvements such as Photo Sphere, gesture-supported keyboard, several major bug fixes and performance enhancements from prior releases.
Motorola is well known for its loyalty from releasing an official update for their devices both for new and old devices. But it took a long time for them to mass releasing the update, since it need passing an soak test first. So for those who can’t wait to get the most recent Android OS, you have an option to install an unofficial/custom ROMs.
Here are the best Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.2) ROMs for the Droid Razr HD/Maxx HD (XT926/XT925), which available up to now.
Unofficial AOKP 4.2.2
This ROM is developed by mikeyinid from xda, and in our opinion this ROM is the most rock solid build ever made for Droid Razr HD. Besides come with the most recent OS, this build also has less “Does not work feature”, the dev mentions that his build only have video camera problems, but for us it wasn’t a big deal, so we were interested to give it a shot. Get the ROM from the dev’s thread here.
(Port) Carbon 4.2.2
Carbon is a firmware based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP), which was developed by the many talented devs. Unfortunately, according to some users who have tried this ROM, they have encountered several problems including: video recording problems, overheating, random reboots, GPS hard to lock, and a few other issues. Despite having numerous of the problem, but this build has a beautiful UI, in case you are curious you can get it here.
Unofficial CM 10.1
Developed by epinter, a dev from xda. This ROM is CyanogenMod-based ROM, since this is not an official build, you won’t get any support from the CM team. Most of the feature has worked properly, but it has a camera issue, possibly due to a kernel-related issue. Follow ROM development here.
