It seems AT&T is the last carrier that will release Jelly Bean updates to LG Optimus G (E970), due to the fact that there’s no official words from them. For your information, Sprint is currently releasing Android 4.1.2 update via OTA to several LGOG (LS970) users.
For those of you who want to always get the latest Android OS update on the LG Optimus G, you can put up a custom ROMs that are specially made for this phone. To be able to install/flash custom ROMs, your device should already have root access, unlocked bootloader and custom recovery (CWM/TWRP). But, in case you wished to flash AOSP or CyanogenMod ROMs, we need to convert our devices’s systems to LG Nexus 4, however the conversion process is more complicated as it requires LGNPST tools.
The following are some of the best Jelly Bean custom ROMs for AT&T Optimus G (E970), which we can flash through TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) or ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM).
SnowJB by SnowleopardJB.
This ROM based off official LG Jelly Bean build date Jan 23, so you will not find any AT&T apps on this ROM, and flashing can be done without the need for Nexus 4 conversion. Some of the features of this ROM are:
- Rooted with busybox, deodexed and zipaligned.
- LG Qslide removed
- No carrier text on status bar.
- SD Card fixes and more.
