HTC Evo 4G LTE is very popular right now, a lot of devs who are willing to work to build apps, themes, custom ROMs and kernels for these android phone. No wonder, nowadays quite a lot of custom Jelly Bean ROMs is available for this smartphone. Some custom ROMs available so far is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) based ROMs, not Sense based ROMs which only made for HTC devices. To install/flash custom firmwares you need unlocked bootloader and rooted. We should realize that almost all unofficial ROMs still have some bugs/issues, but I’m sure some of these issues will be addressed by the devs. Here are some of the custom Android 4.1 ROMs, which built for HTC Evo 4G LTE:
- Official CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) by kushdeck. CyanogenMod ROM was developed by community, this ROM frequently get nightly updates to deal with various bugs, so this ROM is perfect for those of you who like flashing every day/week. Here are some drawbacks up to now: missing alarm sound, sometimes MMS having a problem when downloading content and process.com.android.phone force closes right after boot (but it doesn’t impact your cell phone performance). To download and get involved of development, head to the original thread.
- Unofficial AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) JB by notta, this ROM is running pretty smooth, simple and acceptable for daily use. Here are some features that works great on this build: receive and make calls, 4G, camera, video, front camera, and others. Issues that can be found: android phone process that force closes on boot, and several others. If you are interested flashing this ROM you can download and check out the development here.
- Paranoid Android by Evolutionmods. This firmware is suitable for those want to feel Tablet UI on their android phone, some applications such as YouTube and Settings can be replaced with a Tablet UI that looks more attractive, but with smaller font. Since it is crafted based on AOKP build, you might experience same flaws as on AOKP ROM such as force closes on phone app. You can download and support this ROM on dev thread.
Especially for those of you who still unlocked, S-ON and rooted through HTCDev you need to extract the kernel file (boot.img) and flash through fastboot, you can also read a beginner guide to flash a custom ROM on HTC Evo 4G LTE.
